Cheap International calls from UK mobile
Bestmobilesaver.com is a service that lets you make cheap international calls from your mobile. No need for a computer.
To call someone directly, first you send their number to Bestmobilesaver.com. They will then generate a local Bestmobilesaver.com number which you can dial from your phone and pay a cheaper rate for calling internationally.
The rates start from less than a penny – see them at www.bestmobilesaver.com.
When calling with Bestmobilesaver.com you do still have to pay your main provider (o2, Orange etc) for the minutes you use. However they will only be charged at local rate, or bundled as part of your FREE minutes depending on you mobile package.
Bestmobilesaver.com really is good if you have a big free minutes bundle from your mobile provider and you have lots of friends abroad. When last compared, you can save as much as £1.482 per minute compared to your home provider.
Cheap international mobile calls at bestmobilesaver.com
I was facing an hour-long conference call yesterday, dialling in to a US access point. I didn’t feel like stiffing my client with a humungous phone bill and as usual I’d left the various headset/handset options for Skype somewhere in a dusty cupboard. Ordinarily, I just shout at the laptop from the privacy of my home office, but this wasn’t an option in an open plan office…
Enter Bestmobilesaver.com
I registered via the website, and one can “convert” an international number to a UK geographic number (ie “free” in effect since my airtime bundle on the iPhone is massive). This must then trunk the call to the US over VOIP network bandwidth to a US POP near the destination phone number. The call from the virtual POP to the ‘real’ number is then a (free) local call. So - a bit like Skype except it works on my mobile.
Oh, did I mention it was cheap?
Call abroad on a mobile for 'free'
The service is the brainchild of Bestmobilesaver.com, who plan to massively undercut the high costs mobile phone companies charge for calling internationally.
Aimed at those with friends, business contacts or families abroad, Bestmobilesaver.com will adopt similar technology to Voice Over Internet Protocol (Voip) services which allow people to make calls for a nominal sum.
Unlike Voip services however it will not require customers to be near a PC, but instead use their mobile phone to connect to the Rebtel network, which then routes the calls to countries around the world.
The system requires no special hardware or software, but requires users to visit the Bestmobilesaver.com website, register and carry out a simple set-up process.
Using the Bestmobilesaver.com website, people list the international phone numbers of friends, family and contacts. Bestmobilesaver.com then replaces each of the international numbers with a local phone number – removing the international element of making a call. This enables the user to call internationally through Bestmobilesaver.com for the price of a local call.
Mr Muthusamy says the beauty of the Bestmobilesaver.com system is that it uses the large numbers of free minutes mobile phone firms are being forced to tempt customers with to undermine the big profits they make on international calls.
He said: 'The mobile phone industry has reached the point where the only way to get customers is to steal customers from other networks and they do this by offering bucket plans with fee minutes.
'Each new mobile phone customer costs a network about £300 and they need to have a contract of £30 per month for the company to get their money back. The networks get back some of their costs through charging a lot for international calls.
'If you look at the workforce in London and elsewhere in Britain, many are expats and a pretty big part of them don't have a fixed line phone or broadband at home. This is giving them the opportunity to call home for a great price.'
Bestmobilesaver.com says its service will most benefit those calling friends, family or business contacts abroad and will not be an easy means to avoid the high roaming charges mobile operators charge Britons for using their phones abroad.
However, Mr Muthusamy says the firm will aim to create a future solution that could similarly slash the cost of roaming – currently the subject of an EU investigation.
